My Experience Reupholstering Vinyl Kitchen Chairs

Recently, I decided to revamp my kitchen by updating my furniture. I wanted to add a pop of color and decided to reupholster my vinyl kitchen chairs. I had never done this before, but with some research and trial and error, I was able to successfully complete the project. In this article, I will share my experience and provide a step-by-step guide to help you reupholster your own vinyl kitchen chairs.

How To Reupholster Vinyl Kitchen Chairs: Step-by-Step Guide

Materials You Will Need:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • New fabric
  • Staple gun
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Measuring tape

Step 1: Remove Old Fabric

Using a flathead screwdriver, remove the old staples that are holding the vinyl fabric in place. Be careful not to damage the foam or wood underneath. Once all the staples have been removed, gently pull the old fabric off the chair.

Step 2: Measure New Fabric

Measure the length and width of the seat cushion and backrest. Add an extra 2-3 inches on each side to ensure that the fabric can be stretched and stapled securely onto the chair.

Step 3: Cut New Fabric

Using scissors, cut the new fabric to the appropriate size. If the fabric has a pattern, make sure to align it properly on the chair.

Step 4: Staple New Fabric onto Chair

Starting at the center of the seat cushion, staple the new fabric onto the chair. Pull the fabric tightly and staple it on the opposite side of the cushion. Repeat this process for the remaining sides. For the backrest, start at the top and work your way down. Make sure the fabric is pulled tightly and staple it securely onto the chair.

Step 5: Trim Excess Fabric

Using scissors, trim any excess fabric that may be hanging off the chair.
